Another harbour, this one quite small and definitely not free like our previous, €42 for 2 nights excluding water and electricity!
And not a great deal to see on the island, apart from a large and fairly modern Chora (the Greek name for a village high up on the side of a hill), and a small and deserted Chora (which we didn’t visit). Despite the island being small it had a regular, cheap electric bus service running the length of the island.
Sunday night was another festival, this time involving a traditional Greek quartet of musicians playing continuously from 8pm to 2am, with accompanying Greek dancing from the locals with some young girls wearing traditional dress. Half way through a fire was lit in the middle of the dance floor and people young and old ran towards it and jumped over – supposedly bringing good luck. A large bbq was laid on right outside the local police station.
Because the harbour was small, we’d laid our anchor across the chain of our neighbours, and because they wanted to leave at 7am on Tuesday morning, we had to leave slightly earlier to avoid tangled anchors. The early start turned out to be fortuitous as it meant we had a bigger choice of where to anchor at the next island.
