Thursday 18th to Wednesday 24th August 2022, West Runton

En route to North Norfolk we stopped for a break in Swaffham where I went to grammar school and left in 1976, after which the school became a 6th form college for a few years and has been closed and largely unused ever since. The boarded up windows and overgrown lawns were a very sorry sight. Once settled into West Runton it was a chance to catch up with David and Murial who, on Friday took us on the North Norfolk Steam railway where the highlight was definitely the short ride on the foot plate as the steam engine was moved from one end of the carriages to the other. Also a visit to Felbrigg Hall, and whilst the house was OK, the walled garden was absolutely stunning. Other visits included lunch with David and Murial with Jason, Lisa and 9 month old George. Also a further visit to the grounds of Felbrigg and a trip to Cromer, with of course Fish and Chips in Mary Jane’s Fishbar, excellent meal and quick friendly restaurant service. And finished with a visit to Cromer Parish Church (St Peter and St Paul) – the original Church fell in to the sea caused by coastal erosion. Some windows were destroyed in WW2 and one of the replacements I thought was breathtaking.
