Virtually no wind, so motored north the 14 miles to the beautiful island of Lipsi, arriving at lunch time to find several large spaces on the sheltered side of the harbour wall. And did we need a large space! Jacana just refused to go in a sensible direction in reverse, although after lots of coaxing and kicking the bow round in forward gear a few times, we eventually made it. Helped by the old boy Manoli who grabbed our line and pulled us over fortunately with about 70 metres of chain out.
We stayed 4 nights, taking advantage of good roads for several long walks. We also met up with fellow CA members Ange and Mark on Mirama from Yealmpton and enjoyed drinks on our respective boats and had a super dinner with them at Manilo’s Tastes Taverna behind the church.
On the second day, we experienced quite a cross wind, and a boat trying to get into an empty space next to us, managed to pick up our anchor. Fortunately they dropped it in a sensible place and we had plenty of chain out to securely reset the anchor.
Using our ‘scientific’ taste test we also took a chance and filled up the water tanks. (no adverse effects so far!)
One morning we noticed a strange phenomenon, when the sea level rose and fell about a foot every 5 mins or so. Apparently, this could be a harbour seiche, where water essentially sloshes in and out of the harbour. Never seen it before 🤔
