With James and Hayley coming out to Preveza on Thursday, and having dropped Joanna off last Thursday, it was a chance to stock up (with wine) and catch up (with sleep) for a few days. Preveza turned out out to be rather noisy, so Sunday lunchtime we slipped the stern to mooring and motored and sailed the 8 miles to Vonitsa. We hadn’t visited here for 2 years, when we anchored in the shelter of the isthmus with a church, but today we found a space on the harbour mole, well protected by its external breakwater. It was quiet, well protected, with a working water tap, turtles swimming close by, and free! What more do we need for a few days rest.
Vonitsa is a lovely, largely unspoilt typical Greek town, with cheap bars, cheap tavernas, and not overrun with tourist tack. However, since we last visited, the harbour wall has been extended with plans to build a new Marina. In fact as we left for Preveza on Thursday morning, workmen were pouring concrete to make very large concrete blocks, presumably for mooring lines. We heard that there are elections next week, so all work might cease after then!
On the harbour mole we met a Swedish live aboard on a Michelson 50, one of 18 ever made. On a guided tour of its interior we were immediately overwhelmed by its grace and beauty. We want one!
