Saturday 9th to Saturday 16th September, Sivota, Kioni, Little Vathi, Lefkas and Preveza

Sunday morning was gusting 20 knots blowing us off Kastos harbour wall, and with a beach opposite, we were very cautious as we let the lines go and raised the anchor, engaging reverse gear to prevent grounding opposite. Once we had left the harbour we had an excellent downwind sail to within about a mile of Sivota, where we then went on the wall at Yannis’ Taverna.

Monday saw a short hop across to Itheca where the plan was to anchor in Big Vathi if we couldn’t get into Kioni, but Kioni was only half full, so it was here for the night. We ate in the taverna at the head of the harbour and really enjoyed the best stuffed vine leaves and cheese pie we had ever experienced!

Tuesday we headed north, under engine round the east of Meganisi to Karnaggios in Little Vathi.
And Wednesday, Joanna’s last night, back up to Lefkas where we enjoyed a cocktail/beer at the Karma bar on the canal followed by a very warm welcome from Christos, the 79 year old owner of the Lighthouse Taverna (we’d only eaten there a couple of times in the past) who certainly recognised us. He told us it’s his 80th next year (Aug 13) – we’ll have to take him something next year. 😊On leaving he insisted on giving us a bottle of ouzo. Then on to our first visit of the year to the Havana bar, where again we received a very warm welcome from Despina and Rene. Two rum based cocktails and a complimentary rum each later we staggered back to Jacana!

Thursday morning we walked Joanna to the taxi rank and said farewell to her, the week had gone really quickly! The rest of the day was spent doing laundry.

When we moored up on Wednesday on the pontoons in Lefkas, we found ourselves next to Rob and Lizzie, who were here to celebrate Lizzie’s birthday on Thursday. So Thursday evening, more drink and a Taverna meal, along with Rob, Lizzie, Gwen, Pete and another couple we had met from last year.

Part of the deal with the Lefkas pontoons is that you have to leave on Friday morning to make room for returning charter boats. So we caught the 10am bridge opening, headed north and moored up stern to on Preveza Town Quay for a well deserved rest for a couple of days. We moored up at what in the past is the quiet end of the quay. However on Friday night a rap band played just along from us until about 2am, and at 9am we had music blasting a few feet from us leading up to a swimming gala! Not much rest!
