On Thursday we left Vathi and motored (yet again) the short hop to the beautiful village of Kioni, and arriving late morning managed to get a place on the sheltered harbour wall. In fact when we arrived there about half of the 12 or so mooring spots were vacant although these filled within about an hour. We decided to enjoy the stop and Friday walked up and over the hill to a little sheltered fishing bay and back again via a couple of very ferocious chained dogs and a welcome stop off at a little local shop selling cold drinks and home made desserts and jam (which turned out to be glacé cherries) and cheap cheap wine. Unfortunately we only had a €50 note and a few small coins, and the elderly Greek shop keeper, who spoke no English had insufficient change, so we ended up walking back down the hill being owed €20 and we think she said we could come back Saturday morning to get the rest of the change! Friday night we indulged at Lizzie’s restaurant with sea bream and yet another enormous pork chop. After the last one, I’d said enough is enough, but succumbed yet again. I got through most of it before throwing in the towel! Of course on Saturday morning before we left we climbed back the hill to retrieve our €20, and we think she said come back after noon as she still didn’t have enough change, but fortunately an old man, probably her husband, sitting in the shop gave us the money from his wallet.
