Decided to spend our first night at anchor so motored the 25miles east from Calvi to a reasonably calm bay offering shelter, along with about 20 other boats. On lowering the anchor we noticed an acrid electrical burning smell, and when we decided to move the boat slightly later in the evening, the windlass refused to move. I discovered that a 10amp fuse had blown which was duly replaced, but now with acrid smoke coming out of the anchor locker. I quickly turned the windlass off and discovered that the windlass remote control socket had melted!
Fortunately we can also plug the remote control in in the cockpit, so at least we can still use the windlass, without raising the anchor by hand.
