Friday 4th to Tuesday 8th June 2021, Netley Abbey

This time a camp site only 10 mins walk from Fern. So Friday night we were entertained to a Bbq at Ferns with some excellent cooked meats and real ale, and excellent company with Bob and Flick. It does however remain a mystery how we managed to walk back across a field, negotiating 2 styles, with horses in the pitch darkness of 2am! We just remember there was lots of laughter🤣
It was a busy weekend and on Saturday we went sailing (motoring) in Wini, with Fern and Tommy in their 23ft sailing boat, up Southampton water and back to the Hamble. Saturday evening we all went to the Roll Call for a meal, a few drinks and come 9 o’clock we were all shattered and retired for an early night.
Sunday was roast day at Fern’s, but before dinner we went for a nostalgic drive to the University of Southampton and some of the places I lived at during my 6 years as a student, over 40 years ago! Including 39 Sirdar Road where I rented a room in the family home of the Foster’s and 43 High Road Swaythling where 5 of us shared a wreck of a house for nearly 3 years. What great times. The University had grown a bit, the building where I studied for my PhD had gone, and the Main Chemistry building had had a cladding face lift along with a massive extension.
The roast dinner was exceptionally good lamb!
Monday Fern had to work so we cycled from Hamble Point along Weston Shore, over the Itchen bridge round Ocean Village to the city centre and back for our final meal with Fern comprising steak and excellent air fried chips. (A first for us).
