Friday May 14th to Wednesday 19th May 2021, Crystal Palace

This is it, our first camp site, in the middle of London, well Crystal Palace really, as they won’t let us pitch in St James’s Park.
An uneventful journey thankfully, arriving at Crystal Palace at about 3, to a less than half full camp site. And once I’d worked out how to get shore power (hook up in motorhome speak) we were sorted. Unlike any 16amp socket I’d seen before, with these you insert and twist the plug.
The site is literally located in the shadow of the Crystal Palace TV transmitter, and fairly convenient for shops and overground stations being about a 20 min walk, but only 5 mins walk from bus stops. Buses running every 10 minutes.
Another first in the motorhome, emptying the toilet cassette! (it wasn’t as bad as I thought it might be)
So on Saturday, Ann went wedding clothes shopping with James and I caught up with them and Hayley in their flat in the late afternoon for a delicious homemade Thai curry, taking advantage of the door to door 363 bus, and on Sunday we went via overground train to catch up with Philip, Ellie and baby Rory for a very satisfying Sunday roast.
Oxford Street was our destination on Monday, looking for Wedding outfits for Ann, and hoping, but failing to pick up click and collect from M&S. Despite going to the wrong Oxford Street M&S we discovered that their promise to have the order available at noon, had been delayed for up to 48 hours. In fact I’m not sure what’s going on in M&S as they had very little choice and stock in store. Although I did get a shirt and silk tie.
Tuesday saw us back on the bus, this time heading to the correct M&S and to receive the big box of wedding outfit which had finally been delivered. An hour later, Ann had tried everything on, and picked a dress, matching coat, hat, shoes and a bag and we were sorted. In the evening we entertained James and Hayley on board and went to a really good BYO Turkish restaurant on Crystal Palace Parade (fortunately there was a wine shop next door), our first restaurant meal for months!
Wednesday morning, we packed everything away (leaving the bike lock behind) and headed west.
