Friday 25th to Saturday 26th July 2025, Bridport,

Well we didn’t get off to a good start. Halfway up the Ridgeway as we were accelerating to undertake an idiot hogging the middle lane doing 30mph, the engine started spluttering. Fortunately we managed to pull safely into large lay by at the top, where the engine just about gave up completely. (the car doing 30 hogging the middle lane was by now totally oblivious to the unmarked police car immediately behind it with blue lights flashing telling it to pull over for a chat!)
An hour later an AA chap turned up and without even lifting the bonnet diagnosed a faulty diesel injector. Sure enough his diagnostic equipment said the same. Fortunately (we thought) he was able to locate a replacement injector on colleague’s van in Sherborne. Unfortunately, he was unable to remove the faulty injector, as the stud holding it down refused to loosen completely. By now it was about 1500, on Friday afternoon and we were now awaiting a recovery vehicle! (While we waited we thought we might as well do something useful so Ann cut my hair by the roadside.) The Ford garage in Weymouth couldn’t look at the van until late the following week, the Marsh garage behind Asda had nowhere to store the van for the weekend, but did suggest we try Moreys diesel services at Bridport. So we turned up at Rob Morey’s garage at 1650 on the back of a recovery truck. Bearing in mind, he said that he finished work at 5, didn’t work weekends, we weren’t at all optimistic of a quick fix.
However, Rob had managed to get hold of an injector since calling him a couple of hours earlier, and with a grin on his face, he said he’d have a look! An hour later he’d replaced the injector! So we were on our way again. Or so we thought. The engine, although running was still misfiring. So back to Bridport, where Rob hadn’t quite gone home diagnosed that the other 3 injectors were below spec. No way was he going locate 3 injectors at 7 o’clock on a Friday evening, although felt that he might, just might be able to find some in the morning. So an unplanned night in Bridport with fish and chips and visiting a couple of pubs and a wine bar. It could have been a lot worse!
At 0800 Rob turned up (remembering that he doesn’t work weekends) and started making phone calls. He managed to locate 1 injector in Weymouth and 2 more in Yeovil, these he would have to collect rather than have delivered. So off he went to Yeovil whilst we had a trawl round Bridport’s Saturday street market. At noon we were finally on our way, with sincere thanks to Rob Morey.
It will prompt a letter to Ford, to request reimbursement as a 4 year old Ford engine shouldn’t suffer injector failure after only 8000 miles.
