With Jacana scheduled to be the 3rd boat lifted out, we assumed we’d be propped up by 10, instead it was nearer 1115 when we were lifted out and trundled to her resting place for the winter to be ‘put to bed’. So a few days of various jobs including putting on the boat cover, cleaning, tidying, trying to install the inverter, flushing the engine,…. As the yard is probably an hours walk from the nearest taverna, we hired a car, which turned up less than 30mins after the yard ordered it, and gave us the opportunity to visit other parts of the island. We took Sunday off from boat work and visited Leros Castle after which we had a super meal in Dimitris’ Taverna overlooking Panteli bay.
Unfortunately on Monday and Tuesday it started raining, so washing the sails will have to wait until the spring, but the rain turned the yard into a mud bath making it very difficult keeping the deck clean.
On board we have a door mat which we use at the end of the passerelle if a harbour wall is gritty. However when we went to find it to use at the bottom of the ladder, we realised we’d left it behind a few days earlier in Lakki. So that evening we decided to eat in Lakki and take a walk along the harbour wall, and surprise surprise, it was still there, although being used by another boat. Strangely, the mat ended up in our car!
Tuesday evening, we arranged the car to be collected outside Mariettas taverna in Lakki, where we enjoyed a great final meal with Canadian friends Rob and Debbie, and caught the 2245 overnight ferry to Piraeus, indulging in a large double suite.
