One thing we’re discovering is that the gulf between the first and second finger, and the gulf up towards Thessaloniki both lack good protective anchorages and reasonably well maintained and managed harbours. The exceptions being 2 or 3 VERY expensive marinas, (over €100 per night for Jacana) and a managed harbour at Nikiti, about 20 miles north of Porto Koufo. As we were getting low on water, we opted to go north to Nikiti. On phoning, “do you have a space for the night?” , “no, we’re full”, “can we berth for just a half hour to get water? , “no we’re full”. So we still went! On entering the harbour we were welcomed by 2 harbour staff to a berth close to the harbour office. So much for it being full! And only €10 for the night, plus €10 for a card to get water.
Nikiti is another tourist town, and the nearby beach was packed. A well stocked AB supermarket gave us the chance to top up with provisions for our final few days on board before our summer haul out.
Also a chance to eat ashore, but all in all very disappointing, with overly salted fried zucchini (courgette) and very salty rocket salad.
So in the morning we filled Jacana with water and indulged in washing her down before heading back south to Porto Koufo.
