Monday 12th to Thursday 15th May, Oreoi

Just 7 miles of motoring across from the mainland back to Evia, this time the small village of Oreoi. Our first, and successful stern to mooring of the year onto the sheltered harbour wall. Not a great deal here, other than a row of bars, cafés, tavernas and supermarkets catering mainly for the Sailing Holidays flotilla changeovers. On Tuesday we walked south to the next village, which despite being a tourist resort with a couple of hotels, was completely closed apart from one cafe. It did have an interesting totem, commemorating Polish firefighters who helped the area during wildfires in 2021. The wild fires over the last few years have been fewer but larger. We went on the bikes the following day for a ride northwards along the coast. Ann heard something really noisy in the pond – as she approached whatever it was disappeared. On patiently waiting and keeping very still some eyes appeared through the weed, then some more and they started croaking – yes, they were very shy frogs. We then carried on inland to a largish town (with a Lidl) and back for a beer.
First time also that we had to pay mooring fees, which were cheap at less than €15 for 4 nights. And when I went to the harbour office to pay, the officer knew my name, phone number and email address. Very unusual for Greece!
Still very little sunshine and some rain, so predominantly long trousers and long sleeves.
Also filled up with 200l of fuel.
