Up at 5am to motor the 4 miles across the Evia channel to be hauled out for a few weeks at the Boatclub in Chalkoutsi. As we approached the boat yard at 7am we could see someone standing at water level about 60m from the shore. He started waving and directed us on to a submerged boat trailer. We realised that he was standing on a platform on the trailer and after passing us a rope to tie to the windlass, a tractor 60m away on the shore started hauling us out. As we slowly reached the shore, two 30m sections of the trailer were removed and we were slowly pushed into our resting place, with us still on board, at the Boatclub for a few weeks. After propping us up, we were finally given a ladder.
A few minutes later, a voice shouted our names, asking if we wanted a coffee, and 10 minutes later we were enjoying a coffee with cake and ice cold water from in a little shady oasis with flower plants and cushion covered chairs. The owner’s wife, Cia had certainly given us a very warm welcome.
So a few days of cleaning and tidying up Jacana before George the taxi driver drove us to Athens Airport to fly back to the UK, to escape the heat and get married! Back in September.
