A gentle motor in windless conditions for 9 miles across the bay to the lovely harbour of Vathi on the ‘island’ of Methana. It’s not really an island, instead joined to the mainland by an isthmus. We’d been here last year and visited the volcano with Fern, however this year we walked along the coast road to visit an ancient acropolis built on a rocky outcrop, and in doing so, came across a lovely little church half buried in the soil to keep it cool, presumably. In the evening we enjoyed a delicious meal in Jimmy’s Taverna – we sat on the stone pier next to two French couples we’d met in Korfos.
