Tuesday 23rd to Monday 29th April, Tranquility Bay, Nidri

Because it’s early in the season we couldn’t stay in Lefkas (charter boats hadn’t left), so motored the 8 miles south, directly into a 25kt head wind to Nidri, anchoring in the well protected Tranquility Bay. Later in the season, this bay is nose to tail with anchored boats and we usually anchor on the less protected side of the channel near the IBA pontoon.
We actually stayed here for 6 nights, awaiting better weather, and sorting boatie things. In particular it’s getting close to the time to change the engine’s timing belt, so we couldn’t believe it (and neither could Via in the IBA parts department) when we were told that it’s about €490!, just for a belt and two wheels (tensioner and idler), so it can wait until we can get back to the UK and buy an after market kit for less than half that.
So we took it easy for a few nights, catching up with Rob & Lizzie, Phil & Linda and Gary enjoying an Indian curry with them, walking to the waterfall, now with a bit of water coming down it and walking to a village high above Nidri to enjoy the magnificent views. At Neohori we were admiring some garden flowers and the owner came out and said we could have some – he said they grow like weeds! They would grow across the road if he let them. Then down a very steep, gated track we came across a stampeding herd of cattle quite unused to humans it seemed.
