The 2 hour motor to Vonitsa was uneventful although as we approached Vonitsa, the heavens opened so we slowed down and circled for a while to let the very heavy shower pass. Reversing onto the pier, despite virtually no wind and no tide proved a challenge, I blame the new prop fitted late last season and lack of practice! That evening, with very heavy rain again we ate in a nearby taverna with Mandy and Kev, a couple on the next boat to us, and who we had met in previous years and again in Panos Taverna a few days earlier then back onto their massive (compared with Jacana) 43 ft Elan Impression. Saturday was a boat job day, including stopping the small leak on the face plate ot the impeller and Ann making new backrest covers for the stern seats. Sunday morning took us for a spectacular walk to the cliff face church a couple of miles away. All was well until we opened the church’s small door and disturbed a large rat. We took a few photos and left!
Vonitsa is a quiet town, unspoilt by tourism, although things might change in the future once their new Marina is finished. By Greek standards, it will probably take a few years.
