After a very hectic few weeks in the UK, helping Philip and Ellie with their leak problems, decorating Hazel’s bungalow in Farnborough which she finally took possession of in mid March, and getting the van serviced in Newark, we’re finally back in Greece, on board Jacana, although still on land at Cleopatra’s.
Fortunately we didn’t have too many jobs to do, so finished servicing the engine, changing the impeller, water pump and alternator belts, washed off the boat cover, which survived winter with virtually no damage, sterilised the water tanks, fitted the sails on a very still Monday morning, put on the bimini and frame, washed the deck, fitted a windlass wireless remote control, greased the rudder, antifouled, cleaned the engine bay, polished the top sides……
Day time temperatures were a warm 26 – 28 degrees with evenings requiring trousers and long sleeves, and no sign of mosquitoes (yet)! As the fridge doesn’t work out of the water, this was the excuse we needed to eat each night at the excellent value family run taverna, Panos, 10 mins walk away, where each evening we enjoyed a good meal, with drinks, and a free dessert for typically less than €15 each.
We’d previously arranged for lift in at 0900 on Wednesday, however a week earlier Cleopatra’s had phoned asking if we minded moving the time to 2 o’clock in the afternoon. We naturally agreed. However at 9 on Wednesday morning, the boat lifter came round asking if we were ready, of course we weren’t! They eventually lifted us at 1430 and we were afloat and on our way 30 mins later motoring across to Preveza.
