A relaxing and expensive week in Vliho Bay and Nidri, where on Wednesday we were hauled out at the boatyard just south of the Iris Hotel to have the (very worn) Cutless bearing replaced. Unfortunately the IBA engineer had great trouble getting the old bearing out so the job ran into Thursday which meant a night on a propped up Jacana with no fridge and no cold beer. And based on what the yard had told us we weren’t going to get back in the water until Saturday as they yard staff were working at their other yard.! However once the bearing and prop were back in place, and the lip seal replaced, IBA persuaded the yard to put us back in Thursday lunchtime once we’d paid the yard €300 in cash.
Unfortunately a quick run up and down the channel revealed that the vibration had not gone away so the engineer came back on board and tried, partially successfully to align the engine to the prop shaft, diagnosing soft engine mounts.
So new engine mounts next week!
But we also managed a few walks, from Nidri down past the Vliho Yacht club and from Nidri to the waterfalls, noting a very nice Taverna on the way which we then visited Saturday night experiencing roast pork in a sweet and sour pineapple sauce. Delicious!
