Saturday 17th to Tuesday 20th June, Navplion

Leaving Astos, we managed to sail for less than 5 mins, so then motored the 10 miles across to the historic city of Navplion. An hour after mooring up, the heavens opened with accompanying thunder and lightening. That put paid to walking up the 999 (apparently!) steps to the Venetian fort at the top of the hill. But it did allow us to identify a leak in one of the saloon windows. So the fort with it’s magnificent views waited until Sunday, and the smaller fort opposite until Monday.

Navplion was until the 19th century Greece’s capital, for a short period, and has beautiful narrow streets, with houses rising up to the smaller fort. Monday evening, we indulged in a trip on the land train to take in parts we’d missed on the hoof.
