A couple of days of catching up after saying our farewells to Clive and Pippa on one of the Town Quay pontoons, which it turns out are a reasonable €9 per night, and even better value as we were only charged for 2 of our 3 nights! So laundry and shopping and a wash, cut and blow dry for Ann, and the opportunity to meet up with Gwen and Pete. After a delicious meal with them on Wednesday evening we made the ‘mistake’ of chatting with Rene at the Havana bar which resulted in Pete being invited to play guitar with him on Thursday evening. Despite Pete never having played with Rene before and unfamiliarity with the setup, Pete did a fantastic duet playing Eric Clapton’s ‘You look wonderful tonight’ on one of Rene’s Strats, so much so that he’s been invited for another session. Over the past few days, I’d been aware that the engine battery voltage stayed at about 12.7 volts even with the engine running. Also the rev counter had stopped working about 2 weeks ago and for the past couple of years the rev counter needle had kept dropping to zero. I suspected the alternator, but the low engine battery voltage could have been a consequence of other problems. So a visit from the local engineer who did diagnose a faulty alternator and within an hour and €340 later, had fitted a new one. Now we have a charging voltage on the engine battery and a fully working rev counter again. Brilliant, albeit it expensive service from CYA in Lefkas.
