Sunday 29th May to Wednesday 1st June, Frikes, Itheka

Frikes has a bit of a reputation with westerly afternoon and evening winds blasting down from the west and a significant swell at times from passing fast ferries running between mainland Greece and Italy. We were therefore relieved when we arrived to find a side on space on the mole. During our 3 nights stop, the wind certainly didn’t let us down, and the occasional swell was bearable. Apparently the ferry company has been significantly fined, and now they slow down through the southern Ionian. Anyway, with no harbour fees it was a chance to relax, do some work on Jacana and see a bit more of Ithaca on foot. On Tuesday afternoon we had a bit of entertainment with a Sailing Holidays flotilla of 13 boats turning up as the wind started gusting up to 30kn. However they all got safely in with a bit of nudging and with no damage. (Flotilla boats are usually captained by novice sailors). So we’re still waiting around the area, in anticipation of an email from Agrinio police station saying that we can collect our residency permits.
