Again no wind when we lifted the anchor for the 25 mile motor (again another day with the sails furled away) to Messolonghi. Very uneventful at about 1800 rpm giving us just over 6kt over the ground. We were overtaken by a ferry doing 23kt, but even its wake was a non event. All this is the lull before the storm!
Arriving in Messolonghi marina about 1 we had lunch, paid our fees, had a doze (yes we’re getting into the Mediterranean way of life) pumped the bike tyres up and cycled the short distance into Messolonghi to explore its narrow streets, visit the Park of Heroes and very importantly confirm where the bus stop is for our trip to Agrinio Police station on Friday for our finger prints to be taken. Lord Byron was one of the heroes of the town. He helped fight for the freedom of Messolonghi against the Turks, even paying for soldiers to help the cause. He has his heart buried in the town.
As forecast, Thursday was gusting up to 30kts so we were pleased to be tied up securely, and it was a good opportunity again to cycle into the town and restock and take advantage of free delivery by the supermarket near the Garden of Heroes. One of the consequences of Brexit is that UK phone SIMs don’t allow data roaming typically after 60 days. So we also popped into a local Cosmote phone shop and bought a pay monthly data SIM, which now means we have far more data than we will ever use a month (200Gb) for a reasonable €25 a month.
