Tuesday 17th May 2022, Kastos to Petalas Bay

Strong winds are forecast for Thursday so we’ve decided to head for Messolonghi a day earlier than necessary, but with 3-4kt winds when we raised the anchor, it was a gentle 5kt motor for the 15 miles to the ‘sheltered’ bay of Petalos. On paper it looks like an ideal anchorage but according to reports it attracts the evening katabatic winds, and tonight was no exception. Like turning an on off switch (Rory will know about this) 20kt winds suddenly started about 7pm and stopped a couple of hours later. Although with 20m of chain out in 4m of water and very good holding we felt reasonably safe. It was just us, 2 other yachts and a lot of mosquitoes in what is a totally isolated bay with only fish farms as our neighbours.
