Sunday 3rd October to Wednesday 6 October 2021

Fortunately on Sunday there was space for us on Preveza Town Quay as we had a few jobs to do whilst still in the water before lift out at 0830 on Monday. And more fortunately there was no wind when we arrived, ideal conditions to drop and carefully flake both sails. Once the engine had cooled a bit, we (I) changed the engine and gearbox oil and engine oil filter ready for winter storage.

So Monday morning we motored across to Cleopatra’s and at 0830 we were the first to be lifted out.

The rest of Monday and Tuesday we ticked off many jobs including lining the hatch and window curtain covers and flaking out the anchor chain, rinsing the chain, cleaning the anchor locker, flushing the holding tank, flush salt water from the engine, defrost fridge, remove bimini, exercise the sea cocks (all 10 of them) one of which needs a 14″ adjustable to reach, cover binnacle, clean stained hull with oxalic acid, fit boat covers………., and finally leave the keys with reception and catch a taxi for the 1 mile journey to the airport for an Easyjet flight to Bristol.

So that’s it for this year. Next year, assuming we can, we return to Jacana in early April with another list of jobs to do, although a priority for us is to visit the police station in Agrinio some 50 miles inland from Cleopatra’s to attempt, and hopefully succeed in getting our biometric residency cards, assuming we can demonstrate that we have already have beige cards (got these in Corfu last year), that we have independent financial means, that we have both spent money in Greece in 2021 and possibly 2020, that we have paid the appropriate fee, that we have adequate Greek medical insurance, that we have an active contract with Cleopatra’s marina and that we have 4 passport photos taken in Greece. It wouldn’t be quite so bad if we didn’t have to visit the police station 3 times, once to present the paperwork, once for finger prints, and finally to collect the cards.
