This week saw our first guests on board in the Ionian, and a great week it was. Fantastic company and some great sailing.
That said, the week got off to a shakey start with David and Yvonne getting a taxi to Cleopatra’s marina instead of Preveza Town Quay, but after that the week went to plan:-
Day 1 Preveza to Port Atheni. Detouring via a swim and lunch stop at anchor to the south west of the Lefkas channel, then to Little Vathi on Meganisi and round the corner to Port Athini to free swing at anchor for the night with a short dinghy ride for a meal in the taverna. And we discovered that the dingy does take 4 people!
Day 2 Port Atheni to Spartakhori. Just a short run round the corner, but arriving early gave us the opportunity to explore Spartakhori with a refreshment stop at a beautiful small taverna called Tsovolas.
Day 3 Spartakhori to Kalamos A great sail until we got round to top of Kalamos then into Kalamos Harbour under the usual direction of George the taverna owner.
Day 4 Kalamos to Kastos A short run to Kastos Harbour, where we took the last space, although it did take 5 attempts! First one was about right except that we had dropped our anchor just crossing the chain of our Italian neighbours, so as it was quiet we decided for a bit of practice with stern too, dropping the anchor. Another attempt saw us running out of chain (it’s not as long as you think), and with ever changing cross winds combined with the unpredictable prop walk of Jacana, we created good entertainment for our friendly neighbours! On the recommendation of a young Italian couple moored next to us (with a Polish flag) we had dinner at what we thought was an unpopular taverna. However, we had the best grilled tuna we had ever tasted, it just melted in your mouth.
Day 5 Kastos to Paleros Another reasonable sail, going round the bottom of Kastos to Paleros on the mainland, where we anchored. Time for a change from Greek food, with an excellent Indian curry with onion bhajis to die for at the Panorama Taverna.
Day 6 Paleros back to Preveza We motored round the corner to the Lefkas Canal and bridge, but once in the northern ionian we had a final (for David and Yvonne) brilliant sail right into Preveza Harbour, where again we found a space on the Town quay with a long anchor drop and lines ashore. So a final meal together in Preveza, before David and Yvonne were picked up by taxi on Sunday morning.
Lots of photos alert!
