We had a very disturbed night with strong winds and thunder and lightning and when we poked our heads out in the morning the sea was breaking well over the sea wall (it is only 3 feet high!) but with the forecast for the day set to calm down in the morning and then pick up later, we either had to leave for Gouvia early morning or plead for another night.
Our decision was made with the appearance of Bob and Gillie late morning, by which time the harbour master confirmed what we suspected, that the flotilla that was going to fill most of the small harbour wasn’t coming in and we could stay for another night. This fortunately meant we could spend the day with Bob and Gillie. So we drove to Gouvia to collect the boat cover and found a gorgeous restaurant overlooking the Fort for a lovely meze lunch complete with 360° thunder and lightning.
Having drank too much wine all day, we said our farewells to Bob and Gillie and settled down for the night. At 3.30am we were woken with the boat suddenly heeling at 45° and things falling off shelves and tables. We had been hit by a mini tornado! So the next hour we were wide awake with torrential rain and strong winds. Come morning, thankfully things were totally calm with no damage on board, with Corfu Town left to clear up uprooted trees.
