On Thursday, we motored round the headland to the town of Crotone, mooring up at the Yacht Krotone Club. Arriving mid afternoon we went for a walk, to encounter litter, broken glass and rubbish strewn streets, with weeds growing from the gutters. Maybe we were just unlucky in where we walked. We also paid €8 for 10 small prawns!
Anyway, up early at 0500 for the 72mile crossing of Italy’s ‘instep’. We managed to sail about half of it before a thunderstorm and sudden strong head winds caused us to revert to diesel power, but at least this time we saw it coming! And into Santa Maria di Leuca for a couple of days.
