The weather forecast suggested favourable lightish winds, picking up a bit later in the week, so we made the decision to try for Calvi on Corsica, knowing that we could abandon the passage and stop at the Ile de Porquerolles after 40 miles if the weather changed. In the event we decided to press on and head for Calvi, a total of 146 miles and 26hours of mainly motor sailing, in what at times was quite a heavy and uncomfortable swell. We did manage 5hrs of sailing!
Arriving in Calvi at noon, we were directed to moor up in the old fishing harbour, adjacent to the imposing Citedal.
Last year in the middle of France on Bastille day, we were entertained by an impressive firework display. Unfortunately C19 has put a spanner in the works this year. Instead we stumbled across a public military ceremony, where in addition to laying wreaths, medals were being awarded to soldiers.
