Chalon-sur-Saone is like most towns we've called at, very old, very pretty, with narrow streets and an imposing church. But with the largest Carrefour 5 mins walk away from the boat in the other direction from the old town, we decided to restock heavy items (beer) , and stay for a few days. Also with all the motoring to date, I decided to change the engine oil. Lesson – make sure that the oil suction pump works before you start and make sure you have a new oil filter. So the pump didn't work and what I thought was an oil filter turned out to be a fuel filter.
Fortunately Chalon has a chandlery about a mile from the marina, and a few trips to it and overnight ordering of the correct filter finally got the job done.
