Day 62 Pogny to Vitry-le-François

Wednesday 3rd July

The final 9 miles of the canal lateral a la Marne today and 6 locks taking us up to 101m above sea level to the uninviting and fairly industrial town of Vitry-le-François, uninviting because although we rafted up beside an accommodating small house boat, the marina manager was not having it and told us to moor on the other side of the canal against a barge. We were apparently blocking turning barges navigating the canal. She did at least let us visit the local supermarkets before moving the boat, where apart from food, we did manage a replacement gas bottle.
Tomorrow we start on the Canal Entre Champagne et Bourgogne with its 114 locks spread over a total distance of 224km.
