Day 61 Conde sur Marne to Pogny

Tuesday 2 July

Very long stretches of straight canals today and 5 locks (with only 80cm clearance either side, entering the lock had its challenge with turbulent water from a side-weir) taking us up another 12ish metres. (now 88m above sea level) And we've finally started going south! Although the canals are probably about 30m wide, the edges are silted up with thick weed in places, which we experienced a couple of times when we met a couple of barges taking the centre line, bringing us to a gentle stop in the mud. No damage done though. We decided for a free night so stopped at Pogny, a small village with very little character other than a church and an out of village supermarket and boulangerie which we'll visit in the morning.
