60 miles to Dover so an early(ish) 0700 start. The wind had dropped to virtually nothing so started out motoring towards Beachy Head. At the head, the wind started building, and with a favourable tide we made a good 7-8 knots under sail. However with the building wind, the waves developed to 5-6 feet off Dungeness for an uncomfortable final windy and squally 10 miles into Dover. A very helpful Port Control welcomed us into the shelter of the harbour and instructed us past a cruise ship to the marina. Like Brighton, this was also very shabby (at least in the tidal marina) although the entire inner harbour was in the early stages of getting a very significant and welcome face lift. Ate on board.
