Well we’d only intended staying in Volos for a couple of nights, but given how nice Volos is, we ended up staying 5 nights, and it’s free! The harbour wall, literally a minute from the city is run by the Sail Aegean charter company, and it’s site director, Christos couldn’t have been more welcoming.
So a bit of site seeing (old Greek walls, piles of stones, etc) very fine dining, and boat jobs. Ann sanding, and me replacing 6 of the missing teak deck screw plugs after I’d found a hardware shop selling individual 10mm drills.
Part of the dining experience involved visiting a Tsipouradika and an Ouzeri, where on ordering either a 200ml bottle of Tsipouro or Ouzo, you get a selection of interesting Meze dishes, including, in our case, king prawns, grilled octopus, fava and mussels. Perfect and takes away the decision process of what to have.
Sadly, a boat further down the wall had suffered a fire, supposedly caused by an electrical problem, although to our untrained eye, it looked as if petrol had been poured over the deck, but either way it makes you realise the dangers of a fire on board.
Unfortunately we had to leave by Friday lunchtime to accommodate returning charter boats, but not before buying a roasted chicken!
