Well we did manage a slow sail for a couple of hours until the wind died completely, so we motored round the north west corner of Evia to anchor in the very sheltered Vathykelos Bay for a couple of nights. Also a chance to do a few jobs, Ann continued sanding down some of the flaking cockpit varnish, and I changed the gas alarm sensor and reversed the connections on the windlass remote control, so that instead of the up and down arrows raising and lower the anchor, they now let the anchor chain out and in, which when you’re standing over the windlass operating the remote, is far more logical. The weather is still cold with occasional rain, so far too cold for a swim.
Ann finished her book, ‘The Thread’ , a novel by Victoria Hislop. A good read especially as we will be sailing to Thessalonika later. This is the city where the story is based and interweaves people’s lives with the turbulent history of the time.
