Thursday 23rd to Monday 27th May, Trizonia

We went the other way under the Rio-Antirro bridge last year and this year we again had the ‘excitement’ of calling up the bridge on Channel 14, 5 miles out asking permission to go under it and to be asked our air draught and told which span to use, and then again at 1 mile out for final permission. Leave three pillars to the right and 9ne to the left. It’s not often we get to use the radio in Greece!
As soon as we cleared the bridge, the wind picked up and we had an excellent downwind sail for a couple of hours just with the genoa, and with the wind picking up to 25knots we actually touched 8 knots, before deciding to furl it in a bit.
It was side on in Trizonia, on a very rough wall, so yet again, our scaffolding plank came in useful protecting the fenders.
Later in the afternoon, Chinano arrived so again we joined Kev and Mandy with their guests Rob and Sue for drinks and dinner in one of the 3 Trizonia tavernas.
We stayed for 4 nights so a chance to do a bit more caulking to use the final tube up and lots of walking around what is a really beautiful island. In fact on Sunday a film crew were buzzing around in a power boat taking footage which was then shown later than night on Greek TV. Jacana made her Greek TV debut on Alpha TV Manesis (show) 26/5/2024!
Other friends Andy and Sue turned up in their boat Psittacos 3 on Saturday so we also socialised with them on Saturday and joined them for a Taverna meal Sunday evening.
The weather still hasn’t settled down, it’s still cold, Saturday night saw heavy rain, and at times it was very windy so still no swimming for us.
Despite the changeable weather we walked more of the island’s tracks and paths and even took the ferry to the mainland to try to reach a castle on a neighbouring hill. However the lack of a path defeated us!
