Again a great sail from Navpaktos to the start of the Messalonghi channel and because the wind had picked up a bit we opted to anchor in Messalonghi harbour before moving into the marina on Monday morning and the chance to top up with water, reprovision, laundry and refuel. Fortunately the large supermarket at the other end of town does free delivery to the marina, otherwise carrying €170 of shopping on our bikes would have been a bit of a challenge! In the end we didn’t top up with fuel as it would have meant moving to a berth that the tanker hose could reach. We’ve enough anyway for a few more weeks.
As it started getting dark on Sunday evening while at anchor, we noticed fish starting to jump around us. So out with the rod (fishing!) with a lure and 10mins later a lovely 23 inch Sea Bass. That was dinner sorted for the next 2 nights!
Whilst waiting for the grocery delivery we met ex sailors Pat and Tony on the pontoon who told us their experiences sailing from Greece to the far east a few years ago – Borneo and Bali included (we are not tempted) resulting in us visiting their lovely house in Messalonghi’s foothills and then a feast in their local Taverna of freshly spit roasted pork, delicious! And of course a takeaway for the next two main meals.
