We did poke our noses into Navpaktos’s tiny Venetian harbour but decided against it with laid moorings everywhere and a lot of silt and gravel in the entrance. So it was anchoring just outside. Whilst the holding was excellent in the 25kn westerlies, unfortunately the shelter wasn’t so good, so late afternoon when the wind picked up, so did the waves and we rocked and rolled till the early hours. However it was bearable!
So Saturday morning, in fairly still air we went ashore to explore the spectacular castle on the hill. The pictures below say it all, the well preserved (probably reconstructed) walls and features, together with the spectacular views, made the €3 admission fee, very good value. Back down the hill to the town below and a visit to the Turkish mosque, now an art gallery. So another evening of rockin and rolling before heading further west.
