Monday 26th to Tuesday 27th June, Aegina

After the fun of Poros, we spoke with Q, the Dutch Principal of the Aegina Sailing School, who, apart from being very apologetic, suggested we came to his pontoon in Aegina (15 miles to the north) where his stainless steel man would take a look at the bent gate stanchion. We’d probably have come this way in the next few days anyway, so it wasn’t too much of a hardship. Within 15 mins of tying up, he arrived and suggested a fix, cut off the bent section and weld in a new straight section with a reinforcing insert inside the weld. We agreed to this approach and by 8pm he had reattached it with the safety wires. I must say, he did a brilliant job, grinding down and polishing the weld, and you certainly can’t see the join.

Another positive was an agreement to use the pontoon again for a night in a couple of weeks when we have Fern with us.

Aegina is a typical Greek port, with a busy ferry port, lots of fishing boats, harbour side tavernas and a touristy street one block back from the front.
