We’re aiming for Monemvasia on the mainland, but with no wind, motoring to Dhiakofti got us a bit closer. A very mixed place, a couple of bars and tavernas on a nice beach, but very sad to see a 40′ Bavaria on its side on the beach and 2 sailing boats at the end of the ferry jetty, one sunk, the other on the rocks. Also a large motorboat on the rocks the other side of the isthmus to the island and of course the freight ship Noordland upside down the other side of the island, which ran aground in 2000 after the crew got drunk. We believe the sailing boats all brought migrants to Greece.
Anyway, Dhiakofti is still a nice place, very quiet with beautiful blue water (still far too cold though for some of us!) and convenient for a night at anchor.
