Monday 22nd to Wednesday 24th May, Koroni

Again no wind so motored round from Methoni round the bottom into the first of the large bays at the bottom of Greece to Koroni, anchoring in the shelter provided by the harbour wall. Koroni sits on the side of a steep hill, with a large fort and a ruined castle keep sitting on the headland. So ashore to explore, firstly the rather grand church overlooking the bay, which was unfortunately closed, then to a more modern church on the other side of the headland and steps up into the Fort. We’d aimed to get to the ruined castle keep at the western end of the fort, instead we found ourselves exploring the beautiful gardens and chapels of a convent. There seemed to be chapels everywhere, but no obvious way to get to the keep. Lots of photos below.

Back down to the town, a drink, then off in the dinghy and back to Jacana for dinner.

Tuesday, determined to get to the castle keep, after walking to a picnic on a neighbouring beach, we walked almost completely round the fort looking for an entrance to no avail realising that access was probably via the convent. So back to the convent to discover that it is accessed via one of the convent gardens, however 1pm is closing time Opening again around 4 until 8pm! So we bought a small jar of kumquats in syrup, and back to the town and another beer giving up on the keep! It will be there next time.
