Having had 5 nights in Pilos and it’s bay, and with a break in the weather it was time to move about 8 miles further south, to Methoni. Arriving early and anchoring in the harbour we headed for the shore and an anticipated visit to Methoni castle and fortifications. However, it’s election day and consequently the castle is closed! No worries though, we’ll visit in the morning, so a walk round the town (nothing worth writing home about) and back to Jacana for dinner.
Although the wind built up to about 20 knots, blowing back to the shore, as it got dark (not as the sun set as it was cloudy!) the wind dropped and we had an extremely calm and peaceful night.
Monday morning was bacon and eggs, fresh orange juice and coffee ashore before visiting the medieval fort (occupied by Turks and then Venetians) and it’s grounds, and it was well worth it at €3 each, with interesting architecture (a Turkish bath house still remains) and spectacular views, again with overcast and thundery skies. (loads of photos below). Back to the dinghy where Ann lost her Croc in the water, luckily an Australian lady rescued it with her walking stick and dropped it back on board. Then onward.
