We could have spent the night on the Town Quay at what we think would have been a modest cost, but instead tried for a place in the unmanaged Marina, which unfortunately was full of rather neglected boats, so instead we chose to anchor outside the marina for a couple of nights in about 5m.
In the morning we were blessed with sunshine so took the tender across to Pilos for breakfast, a visit to the castle and a few groceries. Being at a certain age, I was hoping to get into the castle at the €3 concessionary half price, but it only applied to EU countries, bugger Brexit! Anyway at €6 each the castle was still excellent value!
Walking around Pilos we stumbled on a Chandlery, and although we didn’t want anything, went in for a look. We were immediately pounced upon by the very friendly owner who immediately gave us beakers of orange squash and sat us down. His tactic definitely worked as we ended up buying teak oil for the new cockpit table, although he did throw in a free bottle of extra virgin olive oil from his farm!
As we got back on Jacana in the mid afternoon the heavens opened with thunder and lightning.
When we take the tender ashore we normally lock the outboard to the tender with a heavy duty bicycle lock. However coming back, we couldn’t get it unlocked (the lock has always been difficult) so once the rain stopped it was out with the angle grinder and literally 5 sec later it was off and we now need a new lock!
