We met everyone in Nidri on Friday evening with Philip, Ellie and Rory staying for the night in a hotel in Nidri and James and Hayley on board and on Saturday taking everyone across to Meganissi where again Philip and family were booked into a lovely apartment overlooking Little Vathi Harbour. The idea that we would take every one out for day sails returning to Little Vathi each evening. The plan worked out well with day trips down to Sivota, Spartachori and short anchorages in the bays at the North of the island, interspersed with 2 or 3 land based days, including a walk up to the lovely village of Katomeri for lunch. As always, guaranteeing a mooring in Little Vathi was problematic but with a couple of nights at Karnagio’s on the first Saturday and Sunday nights, which meant we had to eat there (what a shame!) a couple of nights on the slightly more exposed Eastern wall, and other nights on the main town quay, mooring each night wasn’t too much of a problem. James and Hayley were only with us until Thursday, so on Wednesday we overnighted in Lefkas with just the two of them which gave us the opportunity to show off some of the highlights of Lefkas including the Havana bar. For a few weeks, we’d been conscious of the domestic batteries falling to just over 10v overnight even with the fridge off, so €500 later we were the owners of 2 fitted 140Ahr batteries. In fact the battery box was designed to take these larger batteries rather than the 2 small 110Ahr batteries they replaced. Hopefully these will last longer than the 3 years of their predecessors.
Back then to Meganisi for the last remaining days with Philip, Ellie and Rory. One thing we immediately noticed was how kind the Greeks are towards young children. Alex in Karnagio’s always brought toys for Rory to play with, and Stavros the owner of Philip ‘s apartment and local taverna offered a free daily pasta dish for Rory.
With Philip, Ellie and Rory due to fly home on Tuesday, we dropped them off in Lefkas Tuesday morning after a decent down wind sail north from Little Vathi through the rain! and following a quick look round its narrow streets and lunch they headed back to the airport.
