Sunday 11th to Sunday 18th September, Vliho, Kastos, Varko, Palairos and Vliho

Overall this was a relaxing week, starting out anchored in Vliho, and of course Sunday roast at the Yacht Club (it’s not actually a club, is just the name of the place). However on asking for horseradish to go with the beef we were told by the waitress that they had none. However half an hour later and a different table and different waitress, horseradish appeared. So no tip! Monday we tied up on the IBA pontoon in Nidri to help celebrate Lizzie’s week long birthday celebrations with their Northumberland friends Phil any Linda and trans Atlantic friends Angeline and Dave. We met at Cafe Di Paris for cocktails. The Porn Star was a hit! Passion fruit with a shot of prosecco on the side. Angeline, from Los Angeles, introduced us to her lovely dog who sported blue collar and matching painted claws. Then off to the Barrel taverna, both on the sea front, for a delicious meal. Stifado and lamb shank both tasty. Tuesday night we anchored off Kastos for a couple of nights and enjoyed a long walk along the cliff tops into Kastos for a light lunch at the Windmill taverna. Bought a bottle of cinnamon liqueur for the BBQ. Thursday we were back celebrating with Rob and Lizzie this time with a BBQ hosted by Gwen and Pete on What’s the Rush in Varko Bay. Friday just the two of us anchored off Palairos and a delicious curry in the Panorama taverna. On Saturday morning we enjoyed an exhilarating sail back to Vliho Bay to shelter at anchor for a couple of nights from the forecast F7 winds, not however before anchoring off Nidri to restock with provisions, including a freshly roasted chicken! So no need for the Yacht club this Sunday! And yes it was gusting 15 – 25 knots (F5-F6) most of Saturday night and Sunday. Nice muddy bottom in Vliho Bay so not much chance of slipping anchor here.
