Saturday 23rd and Sunday 24th July, Koronisia

We left Preveza lunchtime and sailed downwind for about 10 miles to the isolated village of Koronisia with its very shallow harbour with depths ranging from 2 to 2.5 m. Unfortunately the inner harbour was full with 4 other sailing boats so went along side on the inside of the outer mole along with one other Dutch boat. Despite waves crashing over the wall, it was dead calm inside. The harbour is work in progress and has probably been so for a number of years, with evidence of future water and electricity supplies. The village is totally devoid of tourism, boasting a 10C church and a couple of tavernas, a turtle making an occasional appearance in the harbour and very little else. Sunday morning we were awoken at 9 by a priest chanting over the church loudspeakers for an hour, which sounded very Islamic in nature and loudspeakers on the nearby beach with a crowd of about 10 people cheering 3 swimmers arriving from we guess Vonitsa, some 6 miles away. With the bikes on deck and moored side-on we got them out and explored the island and its quieter beaches and yet more turtle sightings followed by a light lunch in what seemed to be the most popular taverna. (i.e. not the first one you come to).
