Friday 3rd June Ormos Aetou, Itheka

Out from Vathi and left into Ormos Aetou at the end of the bay for a relaxing night at anchor before we head for Messolonghi. Ann went in for a quick swim then some relaxation floating on the rubber ring attached to the boat with a line and a less than adequate knot. As expected, the wind picked up at 4ish and for about 6 hours we were blasted by Katabatic gusts, supposedly from the west, but in reality from all directions. We’d left the rubber ring floating but didn’t notice its silent escape. By the time we did it was being blown ashore. We thought we’d have dinner before rescuing it. By the time we got the tender ready to launch we’d lost sight of it. Motoring over to the shore and in the dwindling light, we luckily spotted it and the rescue was a success. Another issue was the outboard kept cutting out so we had to blast our way across the bay getting thoroughly drenched in the process. And as is usual on any boat we lost something – the kill-cord but had a spare. This turned up the following day. It was a peaceful night though!
