After 3 nights of eating delicious evening meals in the Taverna Ionian, and with lift out booked for Monday it was time to start heading north again. Not however before a final night in Nidri to share a beer or two for a final time this year with Rob and Lizzie and get a final bit of food to see us through till next week. On Friday we managed to get a fairly early start to catch the 1100 bridge opening at Lefkas and onward, now under sail to Preveza. We paused in Preveza to top up the tanks with 115 litres of fuel, used over the past 9 weeks, and rather than stopping here, we ventured further into the Preveza inland waterway to anchor for a couple of nights off Vonitsa.
Despite being in the lee of a large hill, all afternoon, evening and night we were buffeted by 20kt gusts coming down from the hill. Fortunately the wind subsided on Saturday and we were able to get the tender ashore to enjoy a few hours walking round Vonitsa and its castle ruins.
Whilst at anchor, we were bemused by a small fishing boat that dropped a very holey 300m or so long drift type net from a rowing boat, often within a few feet of Jacana then returned along the net, banging a plunger into the water, presumably to scare the fish, and then haul the net back in with typically half a dozen sardine sized fish.
Sunday morning saw us heading back to the town quay in Preveza to begin the task of getting Jacana ready for winter.
