Well this really was life in the slow lane! A slow sail across the bay to the lovely village of Palairos where for 2 nights we were on the small pontoon for the princely fee of 5€ (and we got a receipt), but we’re thrown off on Friday because of returning charter boats. So then 4 very peaceful nights at anchor just outside the harbour.
We caught up with Rob and Lizzie again and were also introduced to Jo and Bill (ex sailors, now the owners of a beautiful 50ft motor boat) which for 3 nights provided an excuse for sun downers on our respective boats.
We took advantage of some of the many tavernas and had a fairly expensive (for the area), very enjoyable meal at the New Mill, at which the owner brings dishes to the table of her choice. So no menu, just a surprise at the selection of dishes. Although she does cater for vegan, veggies and gluten free diets. Palairos is also renowned for the Panorama taverna, which other than Greek dishes and pizza also serves highly acclaimed Indian cuisine. So we had to sample it (well twice actually), and for about 12€ each enjoyed a fantastic curry, with the best onion bhajis I have ever tasted, and a carafe of wine! Wonderful value and quality and the waiter was charming with a quirky sense of humour! On our second visit there Paul asked for an extra onion bhaji. When the waiter brought the dish he said I have not got an extra bhaji. I have 2 extra bhajis!
Oh and we did manage a bit of walking!
