Thursday 10th to Friday 11th September, Kastos

We arrived at Kastos around midday, with the unusual choice of several spaces on the outside harbour wall so made the most of the pretty place by staying a couple of nights. The wind picked up a bit during the afternoon providing good spectator sport watching later boats arrive. One particular boat, a 50 footer with a professional skipper opted to go stern to on the outside of the outside wall, anchored with 2 long stern lines ashore. All was fine until dusk when the wind changed by 180°, dragging his anchor towards the wall. The very indecisive skipper flapped and essentially did nothing, not even attempt to reset his anchor, and by now it was dark. Fortunately a young flotilla leader came to his rescue and she suggested that he raft up against a boat at the end of the wall. This he did, and fortunately the wind largely subsided for the night. By early morning the boat had gone, however, in his haste, the professional and probably embarrassed skipper had left one of his long almost new shore lines still tied to the rocks! We now have another long shore line in our locker!
The island of Kastos is small and very attractive, and we managed a walk to a bay on the opposite side of the island. It also has restaurants and cocktail bars with magnificent views. We just had to stay!
